Are you thinking about decorating your home this holiday season?
If so, I’m sure you are as I was, a couple years ago. I had my own small farm house that we used for storing all of our stuff from the outdoors. We had Christmas decorations all over the place and even our year round decorations were festive and stylish. In this article I’m going to tell you what kind of things you need to consider when decorating your home this holiday season.
You don’t need to go all out and spend a fortune in order to decorate your house this year. In fact, thrift shops, flea markets, and garage sales are all filled with treasures that anyone can find. If you have some extra money or someone in your family that does, throw it all away and start decorating your house from scratch. That’s right, if you have any extra old fabric, throw it away, or use it as a throw Roman pillow. But whatever you do, don’t overdo it-after all, you’re trying to save money, not add to it.
mix and match many different styles and themes while creating your dream home
Once you are done cleaning out the garbage can and getting rid of the excess fabric and old throws, take some time to sit down and think about what kind of home decor touches your heart. After that, decide what kind of farmhouse or cabin you want your decorating theme to be. I always look for inspiration wherever I can find it. My mom’s childhood home had lots of wooden beams on her porch, so I instantly gravitated towards that style. My dad’s farm had old fashioned chalets that made the perfect starting point for home decorating. If you feel like using that style, don’t feel like you have to stick to just rustic, country or western stuff.
If you want a more southern decorating theme, try picking up some plantation shutters and some old style, hand crafted antiques. For a more modern feel, go with some modern kitchen cabinets, ceramic tile, distressed wood furniture and maybe even some white lace tablecloths and curtains. If your dream is to create an interior fit for a princess, check out some vintage Barbie furniture and find a great vintage mirror.
play around with different kinds of color and textures
Speaking of bathrooms, I love to play around with different kinds of color and textures. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, a nice bright orange bathroom can look great. For those on a budget, a stained glass shower can be a great way to open up the space and add a bit of whimsy. On the other hand, a black and white bathroom can give your rooms a nice cool feel that will help you relax.
Other must-haves for your DIY home decorating plan include a white microwave, wall mounted dryer, a nice entertainment center and a nice magazine rack. As you can see, there are many DIY ideas to choose from. As you can see, your choices are almost endless. The choice is up to you. It’s really up to you how much time and effort you’re willing to put in to make your home a dream come true!
